Green Horn Trail Camp

Introduction to trail riding and camping - Learn and experience firsthand the skills needed for an overnight trail camp in the mountains of west Wales. Based at SaddleTramps with on-site camping including use of toilets/ wet room and multiple charging points over 2 days you will cover:

• Riding spend 2-3 hours each day in the saddle riding in the open and over different terrains, dealing with obstacles on the trail (such as gates, pedestrians, vehicles, loose dogs), safely mounting and dismounting on the trail, how to lead your horse safely etc.
• Route Planning basic map skills and navigating with the equestrian in mind
• Caring for the trail horse basic horsemanship, safe handling techniques, health checks, basic first aid, feeding the trail horse, tacking up for riding
• Equiment suitability, safety checks, care and considerations
• Camp pitching and striking camp, firelighting and campfire cooking

3 Day Trail Camp

The next step on from our Green Horn Camp -

A fully guided and supported trail riding camp out.

Day 1 of this camp will see riders matched with their horses and riding a circular forest trail (1-2hr riding time) also included is an intro to carriage driving - learn how to harness and put-to before going for a short carriage drive in the forest, learn the different considerations in route planning required by carraige drivers - set camp for the night at SaddleTramps - this is a chance to become comfortable with your horse and equipment before embarking on an overnight trail ride leaving in the morning of Day 2, camping overnight on the trail returning to SaddleTramps in the late afternoon of Day 3 

From this camp you can expect to experience riding over a variety of terrain, navigate "in the field" using a map and a compass, pitch and strike camp first at SaddleTramps (with the benefit of our wet room/ toilets and charging points) and then in the wild on the trail - cook on the camp fire you have made and care for the horse that has carried you there.
